Abstract

The theory of island biogeography states that the local diversity a function of two processes operating simultaneously: the rate of colonization of new species and the rate of extinction of species; both parameters are in turn functions of the distance from the island to a continente (colonization) and the size of the island (extinction). Traditionally they have studied considering only native endemic species in the island ecosystem, leaving aside the possible effects on the richness of exotic species present. In this paper the effects of island area on the diversity of exotic spiders present considering islands belonging to different climatic regions are discussed. We found positive effects of size on species richness and denn temperate climates have a greater number of species.
